Are you an adventurous woman? Would you like to take a ride on the wild side, and buy yourself a pair of fancy new breasts? If you are such a woman, you might want to consider the latest and greatest implant to hit the United States: the Gummy Bear Breast implant!
Cohesive gel implants are the newest proverbial kid on the block in the breast augmentation industry. They have acquired the nickname "Gummy Bear Implants" because of their consistency and feel. They are a solid mass of gel, not a liquid. They feel just like the popular gummy bear candy, hence their nickname.
During production, manufacturers of cohesive implants use what is called a cross linker. This additive makes the gel bind together and form a solid mass of gel, but a pliable one. You can squeeze it and it feels very much like traditional silicone gel. There are currently four grades of consistency; yes, you can choose to have harder or softer cohesive gel implants.
Perhaps the greatest benefit of cohesive gel implants is the simple fact that they do not rupture. They are a solid mass of gel, not a liquid, therefore they cannot leak silicone gel into the human body. Some believe this one fact makes them the safest implant currently available. Of course, the FDA still has yet to approve of these implants, and that could take another 15 to 20 years.
Depending on your perspective, another potential benefit to cohesive gel implants is the fact that they don't succumb to the effects of gravity. If a woman were to stand up straight, her cohesive gel implants will have a nice shape and position. However, if she were to stand on her head, they will maintain their same shape and position! Since they are not made from liquid, the filler does not move around inside the silicone shell, and the implants don't actually change their shape, not even in the slightest. Depending on how you feel about it, this could be a benefit or a detriment.
The greatest downfall regarding cohesive gel implants is the simple fact that they aren't currently approved by the U.S. FDA. Basically, if you're a woman living in the United States, you can't get cohesive gel implants unless you apply for the clinical trial, and you are approved for the clinical trial. Despite the fact that cohesive gel implants have been in use for almost 20 years outside the U.S., they are not yet approved and the FDA does not recognize data that wasn't collected by their own clinical trial.
